Hotel and Restaurant Management Resumes Need Detail

  • When describing your previous experience for a hospitality management resume, you must clearly demonstrate the areas you have experience in.

  • There are many different types of hotels and restaurants, which vary greatly in the type of service provided.

  • Painting a picture of the hotels or restaurants you’ve worked for and describing exactly what you accomplished will help set you apart from the competition.

  • Employers will appreciate being able to identify how your experience relates to their open position.

Describe Your Hotel and Restaurant Duties

  • To describe your previous work experience clearly, consider the following tips:

  • Describe the restaurant or hotel you previously worked for:

  1. Restaurant/hotel type (5-star diamond resort, motel, fast food, French cuisine, etc.)

  2. Customers serviced by the hotel or restaurant (weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually)

  3. Hotel/restaurant size (number of beds/tables)

  4. Sales numbers

  5. Dollar value of food/supplies purchased

  • Describe the areas you have experience providing service in, including your title and the number of years worked in the position:

  1. Hostess, waitress, food prep, front desk, reservations, catering, maid service, etc.

  2. How many vendors did you work with in each position?  What was the value of the contracts with these vendors?

  • Describe your management experience in previous positions

  1. What were your duties? Administrative duties, scheduling, budgeting, sales reporting and forecasting, payroll, etc.

  2. How many people did you oversee?

  3. What improvements resulted from your management tenure? (decreased turnover, increased sales, etc.)

  4. Describe promotions, awards, recognition

  • Describe extra duties you took on in addition to your assigned responsibilities. Marketing, advertising, menu development, interior/exterior redesign, etc.
